How tax preparation works

A clear process, from first question to filing.

You should know what comes next, what we need from you, and who to ask for help. Here is how we work together on your individual or business tax return.

You bring the information. We bring the tax expertise. We review the result together.

How our pricing works
  1. Connect

Step 1: Start with a conversation

Request a free initial consultation. We will contact you to arrange a call about your situation, service scope, and pricing. Specific tax advice and ongoing planning are provided under an engagement.

    Your part
Tell us about your income, business, prior returns, and any deadlines or questions.
    Our part
Clarify the scope and provide a written quote in your engagement letter before work begins.
  2. Organize

Step 2: Share your documents securely

After you sign the engagement agreement, we provide privacy information, intake instructions, and access to our secure client portal for uploading tax documents. Tax-document drop-offs require a signed engagement agreement and prior arrangement. Office visits are by appointment.

    Your part
Complete the intake information and provide clear copies of the documents for your return.
    Our part
Review the information, identify missing items, and follow up with focused questions.
  3. Understand

Step 3: Review your return together

We generally review your draft tax return with you before filing. If you prefer to review it on your own or cannot meet, we can provide a draft copy and answer your questions.

    Your part
Review the information, raise questions, and confirm that the return reflects your situation.
    Our part
Explain the tax outcome, any payments due, and planning points worth considering for the year ahead.
  4. Move forward

Step 4: Approve filing and plan ahead

After you approve the return and e-sign the required filing authorization, we file it and explain any next steps.

    Your part
Sign the required authorizations and arrange any tax payments discussed during the review.
    Our part
Provide your return copy and filing confirmation once accepted. Ongoing advice follows your engagement terms; quarterly planning meetings carry a separate fee.

A helpful head start

A little preparation goes a long way.

You do not need every document before your first conversation. Tell us what you have and what is missing, and we will help identify what your return needs.

If you are catching up on unfiled or past-due returns, or need help with an IRS notice, share the relevant tax years and deadlines. We tailor the engagement to that work.

Questions & answers

Frequently Asked Questions

A few practical details before you get started, from working remotely to reviewing and signing your return.

Request a free initial consultation

How do I get started?

Contact us online or call the office to arrange a free initial consultation. Tell us what you need help with and any deadlines. We review the scope and provide a written quote in your engagement letter before beginning the work.

Can the entire tax preparation process be remote?

Yes. After engagement, we provide secure client portal access for document exchange and offer phone or video communication and return reviews. We explain the identity-verification and signature steps. Office visits are by appointment; tax-document drop-offs require a signed engagement agreement and prior arrangement.

Do both spouses need to come to the office?

A joint return generally requires both spouses to review and sign the applicable filing authorizations, but that does not mean both must be physically present at the office. We can explain the available remote review and signature process for your situation.

How long does preparation take?

Timing depends on the complexity of the return, the completeness of your documents, and the workload during filing season. We discuss anticipated timing for your engagement and let you know when missing information affects progress. Complete documents and prompt answers to follow-up questions help keep preparation moving.

What if I do not have all my documents yet?

You can start with a consultation and tell us what is missing. We help identify the records needed for your return and discuss next steps. Complete, accurate information is needed before we can finish preparation and filing.

What happens after my return is filed?

We provide a copy of your return and confirmation once the electronic filing is accepted. If a return requires paper filing or another follow-up, we explain those steps. Filing acceptance is not the same as refund approval. Ongoing advice and planning follow your engagement terms. Quarterly planning meetings are available for a separate fee and are not included with preparation.
